Equine Assisted Psychotherapy

Equine Assisted Psychotherapy, or EAP, uses horses as part of the mental health team.  Dr. Smith conducts these sessions in Ridgway, Colorado, using her own horse therapists.  This form of therapy has been found to be especially effective for attachment issues, PTSD, depression, anxiety, social shyness, Aspergers, and behavior issues with children.  It is quite powerful with families and groups as well.

Assessments and Evaluations:

  • Mental Health Evaluation

  • Forensic Mental Health Evaluation

  • Anger Management

  • Psychological Evaluation for Custody Issues

Hypnosis and hypnotherapy are stress and anxiety reduction tools.  Dr. Smith teaches a form of self-hypnosis that produces a deep relaxation response, which can become an automatic response to suggestion phrases.  The deep relaxation response counters the anxiety responses, and works in a fairly elegant way to help the body unlearn the fear responses, and substitute them with relaxation.  Hypnosis is the focus on one thing to the exclusion of others.  We do it every day, when we daydream, concentrate intensely on a story, book, or movie; or driving the same drive we have made many times.  Therapeutic hypnosis is simply learning to focus a natural behavior.

Telemedicine is the practice of psychology and consulting by establishing a secure audio/video connection between the doctor and the patient.  You may use your computer, phone, or ipad to have a private and secure psychotherapy session or consultation.
